“I don’t have anything big in Libra, this newsletter isn’t for me.”

Think again!

We all have Libra in our charts, which means we all have Libra expressed somewhere in our lives.

Where we fall in the Libra spectrum is individual for each of us.

In this newsletter, you are going to:

  • Find Libra in your chart and see what it is influencing
  • Learn how to get the best from your Libra
  • Think about how to avoid Libra pitfalls

Who is Libra?

Each sign of the Zodiac, including Libra, describes a specific character, style, and set of tools.

If I had to boil Libra’s style down into one word, it would be harmony.

Libra is harmony.

Its archetype is the Peacemaker, Friend, and Artist.

Also, the People Pleaser, Manipulator, and Co-Dependent.

Like every sign, it’s complicated.

The constellation of Libra is shaped like a scale, depicted in its glyph: ♎︎.

Romans imagined the constellation of Libra as the scales of justice that were held by the nearby constellation, Virgo.

And the themes of balance and justice stick with Libra to this day.

Here are the components that make Libra the sign we all know and love:

-Ruled by Venus: the planet of relationships and beauty

-Air Element: runs on logic and analytical thinking

-Cardinal Modality: gets new things started

-Positive Polarity: outwardly expressive

What is vital to know about Libra?

The key to understanding Zodiac signs is knowing what the sign desires most.

Libra wants balance and serenity.

This sign wants to surround itself - its environment, its relationships, its mind - with harmony.

It wants to feel “safety in the middle” in all areas of life.

But how?

Ways that Libra can achieve its goal of balance and serenity:

  • Filling its life with beautiful things
  • Building stable and respectful relationships
  • Keeping conflict to a minimum
  • Focusing on the more pleasant parts of life
  • Keeping the people in its presence calm
  • Always looking for ways to “even things out”

“There is nothing that Libra wants more than peace, harmony, and beautiful surroundings.”

— Chani Nicholas

So Libra needs peace and balance.

And like every sign, Libra comes with a set of tools to help it achieve its goals.

Libra’s tools:

  • Style and an eye for making things beautiful
  • Great social skills that draw others in
  • A respectful and pleasant demeanor to keep conflict at bay
  • The ability to see both sides of an argument - thinks in grays rather than black and white absolutes
  • Understanding what others want to keep them happy
  • Motivation to create harmony where there was none
  • Patience and empathy for others

This is what makes Libra tick and the skills it employs in the process.

The byproducts of Libra using those tools shine through as traits - Libra’s style:

  • Popular and well-liked
  • Diplomatic
  • A great strategist
  • Loves luxury, art, and elegance
  • Surrounds itself with others, needs people
  • Calming presence that keeps conversations pleasant
  • Thinks before it acts

But what does this look like when taken too far?

Every Zodiac sign has a spectrum.

One end is the healthiest possible expression of the sign - the other is the shadow where traits turn into unhealthy behaviors.

Libra has some potential pitfalls:

  • Trying too hard to please others, ignoring its own wants
  • Running from conflict when sometimes it’s necessary
  • Vanity
  • Co-dependency and the inability to be alone
  • Using those great people skills to manipulate
  • Worries about making choices that are right for everyone & becomes paralyzed with indecision
  • Trouble dealing with the uglier parts of life
  • Focusing too much on material beauty, like luxury and comfort, as a substitute for internal serenity

All signs have weaknesses.

It’s easier to understand them (and give them grace) when you can connect the dots to see why they may emerge.

You may be wondering why I am referring to Libra as an “it” instead of a “they.”

This is because I am not describing a person.

No one is this person.

What I am describing is a pure archetype - a character that exists in mythology and astrology.

Even the most Libra of Libras is a complex combination of many archetypes.

It’s important to remember this because in astrology we can fall into the trap of categorization - labeling and seeing people as one Zodiac sign.

We can even do this to ourselves.

But, signs aren’t humans, and when we try to fit someone into that small of a box it is doing them a disservice.

Disclaimer Over

So everyone has at least a hint of Libra somewhere in their psyche.

The question is, where and how much?

Where Libra is in your life

Investigating Libra in your chart offers helpful information like:

  • Where in life you need peace and calm
  • Areas where you’re great at creating beauty
  • Where in life you could be comfortable with many different viewpoints at once
  • Places where you’re gifted at “building bridges” between people

How strong is your Libra?

he first question is, how strong is Libra in your chart?

Please remember that astrology is complex and this list is a blunt tool for determining “sign strength,” but it’s a good start.

  • Your Sun, Moon, or 1st House (your rising sign) in Libra: Any of these would make your chart scream “strong Libra.” Find more than one of those in this sign and you’re knocking it out of the park.
  • Other planets in Libra: Where there are planets there is energy working through the style of this sign. Some part of your psyche is shaped by Libra. Find multiple planets there and this ups the ante for Libra strength in your chart.
  • No planets are present, but houses 4, 7, or 10 land in Libra: These angular houses can be very influential. Libra’s influence can still be evident even though no planets sit in the sign.
  • No planets present and any house besides 1, 4, 7, or 10 lands in Libra: The sign a house cusp (boundary line) lands in helps to shape it. With Libra on a house cusp, “Libra energy” may be present or felt in those areas of life. But without a planet there, its influence may be less profound.
  • Libra lands between two houses and no house cusps land in it at all: This is an “intercepted sign.” “Libra style” may not be strongly felt, or it may be much more internal than external.

Now you have a better sense of where you fall in the “Libra spectrum.”

From here, it begins to feel like a “choose your own adventure.”

There are more details to add to this Libra story, and each person’s will be different.

“Libra excels at taking the initiative in such a way that others do not realize the initiative has been taken.”

— Robert Hand

What can I learn from my Libra?

One great way to think deeper about something is through journal prompts.

Here are some to help you dissect the Libra in your life so you can learn more about how you may experience this sign.

  • How “strong” is Libra in my chart? Did this surprise me or not?
  • What house lands in Libra in my chart?
  • Which areas of life does Libra influence in my chart? Learn more here.
  • Do I feel Libra’s influence at work in those areas of my life in any way? If so, how?
  • Are there any of Libra’s strengths that shine through me in those parts of my life?
  • Do I sense any of Libra’s pitfalls at play in those areas of life?
  • Are there times when I don’t say or do what I want to keep others happy? When is that?
  • When I reflect on my partnerships, what do I do really well?
  • Are there ways I could consider the feelings of others more, or do I already do a good job of that (or do it too much)?
  • Are there areas in my life where I would consider myself stylish, artistic, or where I have good taste? What are those areas?
  • Would I consider myself a “stop and smell the roses” person who takes a moment to appreciate beauty? If not, why is that?
  • Are there times when I can see how different sides of an issue/worldview/opinion/school of thought are both right? What issues and why?

How do I keep Libra happy?

You have swam through deep Libran waters at this point and investigated how you experience this energy.

If you want to develop and embrace your Libra further, how could you begin?

Ideas to keep your Libra happy:

  • Make your environment peaceful. With Libra, harmony on the outside helps keep harmony on the inside. This sign needs a tidy space.
  • Seek out beauty. Fill your life with beautiful things to behold - in your home, watching the sunrise, through your speakers, creating it yourself.
  • Remember that Libra is a scale. Balance is key. (Always pleasing others while ignoring your needs & desires isn’t balance.)
  • Foster respectful, interdependent relationships. Libra appreciates having other people in its life. It needs those partnerships to feel harmonious and equal - no drama.

How do I avoid Libra’s pitfalls?

Libra is a fantastic sign that can bring a balancing force to the world.

But if you have strong Libra placements in your chart, how do you steer clear of some of Libra’s not-so-healthy tendencies?

Ideas to avoid Libra pitfalls:

  • Keep Libra serene. Pay attention to when you’re getting triggered so that you can deal with it and diffuse it.
  • List your virtues. Physical beauty, luxe surroundings, and high-end brands shouldn’t be top on the list of what you consider the best parts of you. Don’t ignore your other gifts (or those gifts in others).
  • Practice decision-making. Seeking balance is important, but sometimes tough decisions have to be made that don’t feel harmonious. Have a strategy for these times, such as relying on a trusted friend for advice.

“The attainment of tranquility is the essence of this sign’s work. It never happens automatically.”

— Stephen Forrest
